Course Description

This course is offered three times a year.  It is offered for Winter, Spring and Summer semesters
 
 
The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of classroom theory and practice in FSL required for core and immersion programs.  Candidates are equipped with the skills needed to teach FSL at the primary, junior, intermediate and senior levels. This course reinforces the importance of learning this second language with real-life experiences and technologies in the classroom. Teachers promote its usage with students as well as parents involvement with community events and activities.  NOTE: Veuillez noter que le cours sera donné entièrement en français!
 

Course Outline

Topics include:
  • Analyzing classroom practice to assist students with a commitment to FSL learning
  • Understanding francophone culture in Canada and around the world
  • Demonstrating an understanding of how to accommodate and /or modify expectations, strategies, and assessment for students with special needs in FSL
  • Using real-life experiences and technologies in the FSL classroom
  • Understanding relevant and authentic assessment practices
  • Demonstrating the AIM program
  • Reviewing resources used in the elementary and secondary FSL Core classroom
  • Using music and drama in the FSL classroom
  • Understanding how to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Understanding FSL Extended and Immersion approaches to French and to other subjects taught in French

  

Notes

OSAP Funding for AQ Courses

This AQ course is on the list of eligible courses for OSAP funding.   Students must enroll in courses prior to the semester deadline date.  If you are eligible, OSAP will reimburse funds after the semester drop date and will do so directly to you.

Prerequisites

  • Certificate of Qualification must be in good standing.
  • Qualifications in one of the following:
    • Primary division
    • Junior Division
    • Intermediate Division
    • Senior Division
  • Pass the French proficiency Test with at least an overall B.  Contact aq@uwindsor.ca to arrange to take an online French Proficiency test.  
  • If you need to take the proficiency test, you must pay for the course as well as the testing fee by the semester deadline date.

Students may be approved to enroll without taking the test based on one of the following criteria:

  • Earned an undergraduate degree in French Studies
  • Has a major or minor in French Studies
  • Attended a French-speaking university
  • Graduated from a French-speaking high school
  • Graduated from a French Immersion High school with a certificate of completion
