Course Description

Live online sessions will be held 8:30am to 9:30am EST during the section schedule dates.  The remaining course hours will be completed asynchronously through various learning activities.

This non-credit preparatory workshop program aims to enhance required knowledge for the Master of Education program.  Students will be introduced to team-based learning to address critical topics related to the area of study while also being exposed to faculty expectations in the classroom setting.

The Pre-Graduate Preparatory Program (PPP) will be offered online using the Blackboard Collaborate virtual classroom.  A wired high-speed Ethernet LAN internet connection and speakers are required to take this course.  Use of a microphone is recommended however, it is optional.   

Blackboard Requirements 

All classes and course details will be accessed through Blackboard Collaborate. A link will be provided through email and you will have access the first day of class. 

Please activate your UWinID. Your UWinID and password are needed to access Blackboard. If you have any issues, please contact continue@uwindsor.ca. 

Blackboard.uwindsor.ca works best with Google Chrome. You can also use Firefox or Safari. If you are located in China while taking this course, please use Firefox if available.  Before the class starts we will provide specific times in which you can test your browser.  Please note that China Unicom and China Mobile work best with Blackboard.  It is suggested that you avoid using Internet Explorer.  Most classes will be recorded to accommodate any technical difficulties that may occur. There will also be teaching materials students can review at their own pace. 

There is a “Navigating Your Online Course” module and technical tutorials that you can review for a brief orientation to Blackboard once you log in. Feel free to review the full Blackboard preferred system requirements. 

Course Outline

The program is comprised of six modules delivered over four weeks, including:

  1. Teaching in Ontario - An Introduction to Teaching in Ontario
  2. Teaching in Ontario - The Provincial Context and Educational Communities
  3. Teaching in Ontario - Program Planning, Development and Implementation
  4. Teaching in Ontario - Reflecting, Documenting and Interpreting Learning
  5. Shared Support for Learning
  6. Consolidation

Learner Outcomes

The workshop series aims to enhance required knowledge bases for students interested in the University of Windsor course-based Master of Education program.  Students in this workshop series will gain a deeper understanding of the many facets of Ontario's education system.  Topics of emphasis include:

  • the main pillars of the Ontario education system and provincial context
  • stakeholders in education in the Province of Ontario
  • lesson planning
  • inclusive classrooms
  • assessment and evaluation
  • reflection as an educator

Upon completing this experience, students will be better prepared for study in the University of Windsor Master of Education program.

A grade of complete/incomplete will be issued upon  completion.

Notes

Mandatory Health Insurance: 

It is not mandatory to be in Canada for the online PPP course. 

However, if you arrive in Canada before the start of your academic program you must possess health insurance. 

The cost of this plan will be $110 CAD, and it will grant you coverage until you commence your graduate program in September. We encourage you to review the GuardMe benefit summary which outlines the coverage provided. Learn more about guard.me at their website; information is available in multiple languages. 

  • We will coordinate health care coverage with GuardMe for non-ELIP students that do not already have coverage. 
  • If you are attending ELIP, you will already have purchased GuardMe Health insurance.
