Course Description

Registered Nurse as Communicator is designed to support student verbal, non verbal and written communication skills as an internationally educated nurse, who is transitioning to practice as an Registered Nurse (RN) in Ontario, within the Canadian Health Care setting. Students will develop the art and science of professional effective communication skills required for success in professional practice and in baccalaureate-level courses. Students will learn and practice the fundamentals of effective communication with patients (clients, residents, family) and colleagues with a variety of modalities (written, oral, online), conflict resolution, and patient charting and electronic records. Students will develop academic literature search skills via the online University library, the integration of academic literature in the preparation of scholarly papers and demonstrate effective and consistent use of the American Psychological Association (APA) writing and style guide.

This course is restricted to those enrolled in the Ontario Internationally Educated Nurses Course Consortium (IEN) program.
