Course Description
Course Outline
Topics include:
- analyzing Ministry of Education elementary and secondary curriculum policies and identifying implications for program planning and implementation
- assisting colleagues to modify learning expectations and teaching practices and to make accommodations for the learner based on developmental and/or special needs
- exploring opportunities for cross-curricular literacy and interdisciplinary studies in Biology
- promoting the safe, ethical and legal use of technology and other resources in Biology
- modelling the development and use of an array of assessment and evaluation strategies suitable for teaching Biology
- modelling team-building and decision-making skills as a curriculum leader in Biology
- promoting effective teaching strategies and assisting new teachers and others to improve and refine classroom practice in the delivery of Biology programs
- planning and organizing subject-specific professional development for others
- demonstrating skills and strategies that facilitate the establishment of networks with school and board personnel, subject associations, parents/guardians and the community to support Biology education
- informing others about policies, guidelines, and legal and ethical issues related to the teaching of Biology
- demonstrating knowledge and skills required to manage an area of responsibility including staffing, budgets and the selection of texts, software, and media.

Prerequisites
- Certificate of Qualification must be in good standing.
- Qualifications in Primary, Junior, Intermediate or Senior Division.
- an acceptable four-year post-secondary degree with at least 120 credits, including:
- for one subject, a minimum of 54 post-secondary credits in the subject
- for two subjects, a minimum of 36 post-secondary credits in each subject and 84 in total
- at least second class or equivalent standing in each subject (B average - 70%)
- Evidence of at least two years of successful teaching experience, of which at least one year (194 days) in the Honour Specialist area, as certified by the appropriate supervisory officer on our Confirmation of Teaching Experience Form.
Note: A post-secondary credit that meets the requirements for an honour specialist qualification only counts toward one such qualification. A post-secondary credit in Anthropology, Psychology or Sociology counts towards a post-secondary credit in Social Sciences.
For admission students must provide a copy of undergraduate degree transcript to aq@uwindsor.ca. If you took your undergraduate degree with the University of Windsor, you do not need to submit a transcript.
