Schedule D OCT Course

Special Education Part 1 acts as an introductory course into the theories and practices for understanding and identifying exceptionalities of students. This course explores creative program development and planning, as well as flexible integration models for assessment of students with special needs.

Course Outline

Topics in this course include:

  • Historical perspective on special education including Bill 82
  • Roles and responsibilities of teachers, parents, and the community
  • Government funding and special education
  • Inclusion
  • Organization of school-based teams
  • Flexible integration models
  • Modifications and accommodations in elementary and secondary classrooms
  • Paraprofessionals and special education
  • Understanding and identifying exceptionalities
  • Understanding the IPRC process
  • Assessment of students with special needs
  • Understanding and creating Individual Education Plans

OSAP is open to Ontario residents of any age who are:

  • Canadian citizens
  • permanent residents, or
  • protected persons

Students must enroll in courses prior to the semester deadline date.  OSAP would directly reimburse you for the tuition fee.  If you have questions regarding Micro-credential funding, please contact Student Awards and Financial Aid at OSAPMC@uwindsor.ca.

 

Prerequisites

  • Certificate of Qualification must be in good standing.
  • Qualifications in one of the following:
    • Primary division
    • Junior Division
    • Intermediate Division
    • Senior Division

NOTE:  Candidates who hold Technological Education qualifications but do not have any basic qualifications in Primary, Junior, Intermediate or Senior divisions are only eligible to register in Part 1 as specified by the Ontario College of Teachers.
